Warren Dwight Townsend, Sr., of Cordova, MD passed away at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton on August 25, 2016. He was 79. Born on March 26, 1937, in Easton, MD, he was the son of the late Samuel Warren Townsend and Dorothy Elizabeth Swartz Townsend. Dwight served in the US Navy from 1953- 1958. He worked in maintenance at Bay Shore Foods and then as a maintenance supervisor at McCord’s Laundry. Dwight loved fishing and crabbing on Goldsbourgh Neck, gardening, woodworking in his shop, and listening to country music. He never met a stranger and was a very animated story teller. Dwight is survived by his son Warren Dwight Townsend, Jr. (Danielle) who is serving with the U.S. Army stationed in South Korea; brother Arthur W. Townsend (Susan) of Palmetto, FL; sister Jean F. Corrales of Las Cruces, NM; companion Grace Elben; and his beloved dog Mollie. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Joyce Faulkner Townsend and brother Samuel “Butch” Townsend. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton, MD, where services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 beginning at 11 am. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Warren’s name to the VFW post 5118, 355 Glebe Road, Easton, MD 21601 or the American Legion Talbot Post 70, 29511 Canvasback Dr., Easton, MD 21601.

Easton: Reginald Elliott Mutter died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at his home in Easton Club East. He was 77 years old. Born on May 20, 1939, in Christiansburg, VA, he was the son of the late Frank Mutter and Mattie Carrier Mutter. He graduated from Jonesboro High School Class of 1957. Mr. Mutter was employed with Bulk Carrier Conference for many years as a Transportation Analyst. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Easton Elks Club. Mr. Mutter’s hobbies included; baseball, he was an avid Orioles and Nationals fan as well as collecting baseball cards and was very involved in youth sports, and enjoyed playing cards. He is survived by his children; Wayne Mutter (Brenda), Richard Mutter (Cheryl), Russell Mutter, Jennifer Mutter Van-Loo (Robert), step children; Bill Mascaro (Sue), Rick Mascaro (Bonnie) and Bob Mascaro (Lynn) along with his beloved grandchildren; Lauren, Tommy, Amanda, Michelle, Shawn, Dylan, Brad , Jessica and Alexis and beloved step-grandchildren; Jennifer, Michael, Stephanie, Nick, John, Jacob, Grace, Rachel and Sarah. In addition, he is survived by his brothers and sister; Don Mutter (Rose), Ronnie Mutter (Patsy) Joan Brown (Harry), Mitchell Mutter (Carol) and Tim Mutter (Jane), sister-in law, Mary Mutter and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally Ann Mutter and second wife, Nancy W. Mutter, a daughter, Desira Downing, and a brother, Mickey Mutter and grandchild, Kyle Mutter. A memorial reception will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 200 S. Harrison St., Easton from 5 PM -7 PM on Thursday, September 8, 2016. A funeral mass will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11 AM. Burial will be private in Oxford Cemetery. A special reception will be held following the funeral mass at the Easton Club East Clubhouse where all of his friends, neighbors and loved ones are invited. St. Michaels, MD: Noel “Bonney” Holmes Grote passed away on September 3, 2016 peacefully at home with her husband under the care of Talbot Hospice. She suffered from Lewy Body Dementia for the past seven years. She was born in rural Monkton, Maryland on April 11, 1937 on property that had been in her family since colonial times and was raised with horses and other pets becoming an accomplished horsewoman. An avid athlete, she was recently inducted into the Hereford High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a world traveler, an animal rescue supporter, a home renovator, a furniture restorer, an artist and a music lover. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dennis Grote, her sister Mrs. Julia Boone and cousins. Per her wishes, services will be private. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Pearl Victoria Johnson Hackett, of Chestertown, MD, died on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at University of Maryland Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown. She was 82. Born on March 8, 1934 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late David and Irma Johnson Cann. She graduated from Garnett High School, class of 1952 and Chesapeake College, where she earned a degree in teaching. She was married to the late Jasper Hackett in 1956. They lived in Chestertown, MD, where she worked for Washington College as a cook and supervisor. Mrs. Hackett later worked as a teacher with the Head Start Program for Kent, Dorchester and Talbot Counties, until she retired in the early 80’s. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Chestertown, where she was a member of the Hamilton Jones Ringgold Warren Missionary Society and sang in numerous choirs. Mrs. Hackett was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Rock Hall. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her children, singing and traveling. Mrs. Hackett is survived by two daughters, Carol Wright and husband Kenneth of Chestertown, and Sylvia Fraizer and husband Charles of Chestertown; two sons, Corey S. “Fat Cat” Hackett and wife Valerie of France, and Jasper E. Hackett and Lori Mills of VA, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call one hour prior (10-11am). Interment will be in Janes Emmanuel Cemetery in Quaker Neck, following the service.

Nancy Jeanne Jacobs of Stevensville, Maryland died Sunday, September 4, 2016. Born March 5, 1951 in Oceanside, CA, she was the daughter of the late James and Geraldine Magnus. She grew up in Edina, MN. Nancy began her aviation career in 1978. She was hired by Pacific Southwest Airlines in 1985 and retired from US Airways as a captain in 2007. She met her husband Scott during her early years flying into the Chicago Midway Airport. They married in 1984 and spent their 32 years of marriage traveling, fishing, and raising their daughters. Nancy retired to become a stay-at-home parent and spent the next nine years caring for her family and attending countless lacrosse games. She loved jet-skiing and enjoying her home on the Chesapeake Bay. She had a beautiful gift for making others feel special. Nancy is survived by her husband, Scott; daughters Julia and Brittany; sisters Diana Thompson (Jack) of Littleton, CO, Judy Grote (Harold), Mary Jo Carlson (Bruce Johnson), and Gerry Sjoblom (Mike), all of the Twin Cities, MN, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Jimmy Magnus. A visitation will be from 6-8PM on Friday September 9, 2016 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. Chester, MD. A celebration of life will be at 10AM on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD. There will be a short visitation before mass. Richard A. “Dick” Doeler of Chester died on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. He was 87. He was born on May 13, 1929 in New Brunswick, NJ. Richard was the son of the late August J. and Ann Demko Doeler of Edison, NJ. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick, NJ in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and was stationed in Germany with the 526 Fighter Bomber Squadron. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he returned home to marry his fiancée the former Janet M. Mattison on October 30, 1954. They moved to MD in 1955. He continued his studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. They resided in Hyattsville, MD before moving to the Eastern Shore in 1980. He was employed by the Navy Department Bureau of Ships in Washington D.C., and in 1963 he joined NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. He retired from Federal Service in 1984. Richard was a member of St. Christopher’s Church where he had been Eucharist Minister. He was a member of the Kent Island Yacht Club and had served on the Board of Directors. Richard is survived by his three sons; Mark R. Doeler (Julie Whitcomb) of Silver Spring, Carl W. Doeler (Karen) of Stevensville, and Paul F. Doeler (Lynne) of Centreville, four grandchildren; Hannah, Alexander, Jackson, Mattison. He is predeceased by a brother Robert J. Doeler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 11AM, where family and friends may visit from 10-11AM. Burial will be private at Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD. Contributions may be made in his name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Rosa May Gladu “Frosti”, born December 10, 1940 in Yarmouth, Maine, died September 8, 2016 in the home she shared with her husband of 54 years, Joseph Raymond Gladu. Frosti dedicated her life to living for the Lord, loving her husband and her very large family. Not only is she survived by her husband, Joseph Gladu, but also by her son, Michael Gladu of Chestertown, daughter Bethany Jordan and her husband Larry of Queenstown, granddaughter Nichole Lynn Gladu, grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Christopher and Samantha Gladu, granddaughters, Lindzee Gladu, Krystal Harrison, and Dakota Jordan, grandsons Walter Harrison and Jake Riley. Frosti also enjoyed spending time with her eleven great grandchildren; Dregor, Daniel, Christian, Cullen, Tyriq, Jaden, Madison, Tripp, Rylie, Kalie, and Khloe, and her niece, Denise Landry Tizon. Frosti was the eldest of five daughters, born to a Maine fisherman and boat builder, and a stay at home mother. She enjoyed reminiscing being on her father’s boats off the coast of Maine when she was younger. She is survived by three sisters, Barbara Granholm of Freeport, Maine, Celia Gregor of Jackson, Mississippi and Julia Fitch of Cumberland, Maine. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Landry of Yarmouth, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Life Wesley Church, 13699 Greensboro Road, Greensboro, MD 21629. Marshall Vestal was born on June 14, 1933 in Leakesville, NC to the late Neaurs M. Vestal and Maggie P. Bennett Vestal. He began working at a young age at the Orange Crush Bottling Company. He later moved to Washington, D.C. working as a foreman for storage companies, until retiring from Security Storage. In 1963, he married Gloria Brown and resided in Landover, MD. They later moved to Kenmore and in 1972 to Annapolis. In 2011 he moved to Mardela Springs, MD. Mr. Vestal was a member of the Bay Country Moose Lodge and Odd Fellows. He enjoys hunting, dancing, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. He is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Vestal and Gloria M. Furr; five step children, Cecil R. Yancey, Linda L. Croushorn, Joan M. Arnold, John M. Yancey, and Cecilia A. Miller; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Gloria, two step sons Richard J. Yancey and Jimmy E. Yancey, three brothers, David Vestal, Haywood Vestal, and Fred Vestal; and three sisters, Clara Farmer, Gardine Vestal and Kathleen Vestal, predeceased him. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 14th at 11 am at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Centreville, MD, with a visitation from 9:45am -10:45am at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD. James Wallace Ruhl, Sr. of Chester, MD died Monday September 19, 2016 at Corsica Hills Center in Centreville, MD. He was 81. Born on October 13, 1934 in Baltimore, MD; the son of the late Roland and Mildred Ruhl he grew up in Baltimore and was a graduate of Poly-Tech High School. After high school Jim enlisted in the US Marines and served 3 years in Japan. After he was honorably discharged he returned to Baltimore. He married Joan Armstrong in 1955. They resided in Baltimore and would settle in Bowie for over 30 years. Jim worked was a draftsman with Glen L. Martin and would spend the bulk of his 30-year career with Singer-Link retiring as a director of CADD. In 1994 they moved to Chester, MD. Jim enjoyed photography and computers, and was an avid Baltimore sports fan, especially when the Colts were around. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD. Survived by his beloved wife Joan Ruhl of Chester, MD; three sons: James W. Ruhl, Jr. of Bowie, MD, Thomas M. Ruhl of Bowie, MD and David B. Ruhl of Stevensville, MD; a daughter Carol A. Yelavich of Roseville, CA and 8 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Roland Ruhl and sister Mary White. A visitation will be held on Thursday September 22, 2016 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 106 Shamrock Road in Chester, MD from 2PM to 5PM.
